Thanet Winter Shelter
Thanet Winter Shelter 2020 and Coronavirus
The Thanet Winter Shelter opens its doors on Monday 23 November until March 31st 2021 in one multi-purpose location, giving rough sleepers access to a shelter that’s open 24 hours a day. The shelter which is now in its fifth year is supported by the Salvation Army, Thanet District Council and the local community.
For the first time, the Shelter will be housed in one location, with guests offered the exclusive use of a room to stay in and individual shower facilities, as well as hot meals providing a warm and welcoming environment . There is also the opportunity for our guests to take part in trauma informed in- house activities and creative pursuits with the aim of building self-esteem, life skills and to help empower our guests to take the first steps in ending their time living on the streets.
In order to provide the best service possible we need YOUR help. We welcome volunteers in all areas, from cooking, delivering creative workshops, supporting shelter staff, YOUR help is invaluable. We also gratefully welcome financial donations which can be made to our fundraising page or through purchases from our Amazon Wishlist.
COVID-19 has made for a challenging year for everyone and especially our guests who have the added strain of living a life that can be filled with uncertainty and fear. With the help of the community we want to take the opportunity that COVID-19 has given us in being able to provide 24 hour respite from the cold and make this the best season yet for the long term well- being of our guests.
