Thanet Winter Shelter

What We Do

The Thanet Winter Shelter aims to make a big difference to the lives of people in circumstances beyond their control and who find themselves rough-sleeping homeless.

“Floating” Shelter

As a ‘popup’ or floating shelter using church buildings staffed by project workers and volunteer teams, the Shelter hopes to take the uncertainty and stress out of trying to find overnight accommodation during the coldest nights of the winter. Fifteen to twenty people each evening at venues in Margate and Ramsgate can be accommodated each evening during December, January and February.

I am so thankful for the shelter.  I don’t know how I would have survived a winter on the streets.  the help that they gave me has really helped me to get my life back on track.

What I like about helping at the Winter Shelter is how friendly everyone is.  The community spirit is great and sometimes I walk away wondering whether I have helped or been helped.  I can’t wait for this year’s shelter to open up again.
